Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS), along with partners Big Stone County Memory Link Group and First English Church of Ortonville, will host an event providing training on more effectively serving consumers who may struggle with symptoms of Dementia.

The Dementia-Friendly County Resource Fair will take place on Thursday, January 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the First English Church, 9 NW. Third St., Ortonville, Minnesota. Please join us for lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by training until 1:30 p.m.

Kathy Hermes, a longtime educator and advocate for youth, has received the Changemaker Award from the Minnesota Women’s Press. The annual award recognizes women who “have not only changed the lives of women and children but those who are (also) changing narratives of what it means to be a collaborative, connected community.”

Susie Emmert has been named Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer for Saint Paul-based Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS), which is among the largest human service organizations statewide. Emmert will oversee state and national advocacy initiatives for the organization to improve services and public policies that support full and abundant lives for all Minnesotans.

Tonia Brinston, financial educator for LSS Financial Counseling, received an award as one of the Top Women in Finance by Finance & Commerce Newspaper on November 15. Brinston, based in Minneapolis, was recognized at an awards dinner attended by more than 450 people at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. Each year, this award recognizes 45 outstanding women who make notable contributions to their professions and communities.
