Safe Exchange Program

Safe Exchange is a service for parents who need a neutral environment for one parent or foster parent to drop off their child and for the other parent to pick up their child for visitation rights. Families who use this service may do so as a result of a court order or on a voluntary basis.

By providing a safe and pleasant environment for custodial and non-custodial parents, Safe Exchange supports the opportunity for children to have healthier relationships with both parents.

How It Works

LSS professionals facilitate the exchange in agreement with both parties. They focus on the well-being of the children and assist in preventing negative interactions between family members which may be detrimental to a child's well-being.

  • To ensure that both parties are in agreement, each parent is responsible for contacting Safe Exchange to discuss the visitation exchange and make agreements.
  • After both parties have agreed to the arrangements, the visitation exchange will be scheduled.

Court Ordered Exchanges

Officers of the court who would like to refer or order parties to use the Safe Exchange Program are asked to take the following steps:

  1. Indicate LSS Safe Exchange in the court order as the service to handle visitation exchanges of the children between parents.
  2. Indicate in the court order whether the applicable exchange fee will be divided between both parties or will be the responsibility of one party.
