Gwendolyn Brooks ready to support and care for a child in need
I am Gwendolyn Brooks, and I live in Maple Grove, Minnesota. I have one adult son, who now lives on his own. I live by myself in a 3-bedroom and 2-bathroom apartment. My community is very quiet and has a park, some trails and pond nearby. I am happy to be able to offer a welcoming environment and individualized support to somebody who wishes to receive this.
I am the happiest when I am working hard, and still able to connect with family and loved ones. These relationships fill my cup and keep me going. I like to cook and try new recipes. I am involved in my church and enjoy volunteering within my community. I grew up with my family in Africa. Taking care of each other was always a priority in my family. In my culture, caregiving is part of life from a very early age.
My apartment is located on the main level of the building. There is a grade level entrance to both the building itself, and the apartment. I also have a walk out front porch, which is beautiful in the summertime. The living area is very spacious, where children can watch television and play, while receiving the level of supervisory support they require. I am able to use my experience as a foster care provider to set expectations such as everyday chores, cleanliness and maintaining honesty.
I have been supporting children through foster care since 2004 and I have a background working as a certified nursing assistant. For 30 years, I have worked in various disability services including group homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. This is how my passion for providing care for children with disabilities began. I believe that every child has the right to have their individualized needs met and I am open to helping any child who needs a safe and loving environment. I have enjoyed supporting children throughout the years through foster care. I look forward to continuing this and helping them to reach their goals.
