MPR and Northland News TV were among several news organizations that reported on the new youth shelter set to open in Duluth in January, geared specifically for young adults, ages 18 to 24, who are experiencing homelessness. Operated by Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, Another Door will provide a lifeline to up to 12 youth who lack shelter. Currently there are only two to four beds in Duluth for young adults. The new location will offer a full continuum of care with a greater focus on employment, independent living skills, mental health and well-being. "This project is a wonderful example of the amazing good that comes when public partners, faith communities and social service organizations lean into what we can each offer to improve well-being for our neighbors," said Dawn Shykes, senior director of Youth, Children and Family Services. "Because of this collaboration, youth in our community will receive the life-changing support they need to live full and abundant lives." WDIO TV and North 103.3 also shared reports on the new shelter.
