LSS receives grant from Compeer Fund for Rural America to Support Meals Service to Community

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota received a $3,800 grant from the Compeer Financial Fund for Rural America to repair and upgrade kitchen equipment for LSS Meals in Mankato. 

“We are so grateful to the Compeer Financial Fund for Rural America for their generous gift to support needed improvements in our Mankato kitchen,” said Amy Vajgrt, senior director of LSS Meals. “Their support helps us to ensure that older adults in our community have the social and nutritional support they need to remain living at home longer, and stay healthy, active and independent.”

In Blue Earth County and 27 other counties statewide, Lutheran Social Service provides meals through community dining centers, diner’s clubs and home-delivery with help from friendly volunteers who offer a personal safety check for older adults that may not be able to leave their home. A convenient Meals to Go option also offers nutritious frozen meals that can be shipped to anyone in Minnesota. 

Compeer Financial, with a local office in Mankato, is a member-owned, Farm Credit cooperative serving and supporting agriculture and rural communities. The organization provides loans, leases, risk management and other financial services in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America, the Farm Credit cooperative’s giving program, has awarded 41 General Use Grants to initiatives and organizations with services that help maintain or improve the quality of life in rural communities.
