Therapeutic Foster Care – Mankato Area

What We Do

Therapeutic Foster Care is a highly supportive, professional service geared to the best outcomes for children in foster care and families. It is a distinct, powerful, and unique model of care that provides youth with a nurturing and therapeutic family environment. Our approach to fostering is met through the nurturing, modeling and teaching provided by foster parents and through the therapeutic interventions, guidance, support and education provided by mental health practitioners.

 

Project Location

Collect supplies at your church and then deliver them LSS' Mankato Therapeutic Foster Care Office at 710 S. 2nd St., Mankato.

 

What You Can Do

Project #1 Welcome Bags for youth experiencing foster care: Most often, when a youth first comes into foster care, they come with very few belongings or nothing at all. We work to support youth and families during the time of transition that occurs during a new placement by providing welcome bags. We especially appreciate items for older children, ages and up. 

Project #2 School Backpack Drive for Foster Children: Help ensure youth experiencing foster care have the necessary items for school by filling backpacks with commonly needed school supplies.

 

Project Details

Project #1 Welcome Bags for Foster Children:

Welcome Bags could include items such as:

  • A flashlight
  • A stuffed companion or blanket
  • A journal
  • A book
  • Fidgets
  • Puzzles
  • A calendar
  • Pajamas
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Toiletries - including toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bath bombs.
  • We also appreciate gift cards for families to places such as Walmart or Target so they can purchase items tailored to the youth, especially when it is a quick or urgent placement.

Project #2 School Backpack Drive for Foster Children:

Fill backpacks with school supplies for foster care children, ages pre-school through high school. Supplies could include:

  • Pocket folders.
  • Notebooks.
  • Scissors.
  • #2 Pencils.
  • Colored pencils.
  • Washable markers.
  • Pencil pouches.
  • Backpacks.
  • Water bottle.
