LSS Meals on Wheels Continuing in Jasper
Meals on Wheels Moving to LSS Meals Luverne Kitchen on August 18
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) has been a proud provider of Meals on Wheels service in Jasper and southwest Minnesota since 2007. They work with local partner Sunrise Village to prepare and package LSS Meals on Wheels which are distributed throughout the community through contactless delivery.
“LSS Meals is saddened to lose a terrific partner with the closing of Sunrise Village. However, we want to assure the community that Meals on Wheels will continue in Jasper,” said Sarah Anderson, Regional Manager for LSS Meals in Rock and Pipestone counties.
Starting this Tuesday, August 18, 2020 LSS Meals on Wheels for Jasper will be prepared at the LSS Luverne meal production kitchen and delivered to Jasper City Hall twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. There is also an option to add additional frozen meals for delivery with the hot meals. LSS is grateful that community volunteer groups will continue to deliver meals from City Hall directly to homes.
The home style recipes are developed by a registered dietician and carefully portioned with a balance of proteins, carbohydrates and spices to both meet dietary needs and taste great. Adjusted meals are available for those who are diabetic, require a controlled sodium or a vegetarian diet. Inquiries about LSS Meals on Wheels can be made by calling the LSS Meals Luverne kitchen toll-free at 1- 866-985-8509.
The full cost of each meal is $7.80. Adults aged 60+ are asked to make a contribution between $5.00-$7.80 toward the cost of their meals. A statement will be mailed each month with the number of meals received and a suggested donation amount. LSS Meals can accept check, credit card, SNAP benefits or a statement can be sent to a third party such as an adult child or a conservator to pay. No one age-eligible will be denied a meal because of inability to contribute. A brief registration form is also requested.
LSS Meals on Wheels is funded under contract by the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging with funding from the Older Americans Act through the Minnesota Board on Aging. Additional funds are provided by the State of Minnesota, United Ways, local communities, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota and contributions from participants.
