PICS March Employee Spotlight [Get to know Alex Welty, Senior Human Resource Specialist]
At PICS (Partners in Community Supports), a subsidiary of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS), much of our work is behind the scenes. Our Employee Spotlight helps you learn more about our team. This month, learn about Alex Welty, senior human resource specialist at PICS!
Alex began working as a human resource specialist at PICS in September 2020. In September 2023, she was promoted to senior human resource specialist. Let's learn more about her.
Q. As an organization, we strive to embody our vision that all people have the opportunity to live and work in the community with full and abundant lives. Our employee vision is that employees have deeply meaningful work that changes lives, the opportunity for their unique gifts to shine and grow, and abundant and balanced lives. We're always inspired by the unique paths our team members take to join us on this journey. Could you share with us what drew you to PICS and how your vision aligns with the organization's?
Alex: My grandma is a big reason why I was drawn to work for LSS and PICS. When I was growing up, my grandma and I regularly volunteered together through our Lutheran church. She taught me the importance of taking care of one another and being there for people in our community. Many members in my community, including my family, have been directly impacted by LSS. This is why I wanted to work for an organization that would allow me to make a positive impact.
Q. What do you enjoy most about working at PICS?
Alex: There are so many reasons why I love working at PICS, but the number one reason is our PICS culture. I am lucky to work alongside such hardworking and passionate people who are dedicated to PICS’ mission.
Q. The following are PICS’ shared values:
- Trustworthy
- Compassionate
- Knowledgeable
- Collaborative
- Responsive
How have you been able to put your own personal values into action while working at PICS?
Alex: One of the main reasons I love working at PICS is how well my values align with PICS’ vision. Because of this, I am able to put my personal values into action every day when working with our families. I prioritize PICS' shared values when assisting our families with paperwork, creating policies and procedures, and providing customer service.
Q. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Alex: I love being active. Some of my favorite hobbies include weightlifting, tennis, pickleball and snowboarding.
Q. Share a fun fact about yourself.
Alex: I recently became a dog foster and fostered a Chiweenie (Chihuahua and Weiner dog mix) this past fall. It was a fun and rewarding experience, and I can't wait to foster more dogs in the future!
Q. Do you currently have any pets?
Alex: Yes! I have a three-year-old Corgi named Willow, and the newest addition to the family is a puppy Corgi named Pongo.
