Adoption
There are children all over the world and right here at home who need a caring family to
love and raise them. If you are interested in adoption, LSS provides adoption studies,
child placement, post placement services, pregnancy counseling and post adoption services.

Camp Knutson
This spectacular camp, located near Crosslake, Minn., serves people with disabilities.
Campers include people with severe skin disorders, hearing impairments, HIV-AIDS
sufferers, people with emotional problems. The camp is open to groups in the spring,
summer and fall. |

Camp Noah
Camp Noah is a weeklong, faith-based day camp offered for elementary-age
children in grades K-6 who have experienced disaster and offers support
and fun-filled recreation to form a unique and healing experience. The
camp is staffed by trained camp counselors and is supported additionally
by a local mental health professional. Camp Noah 2, a new curriculum, is
also offered for disaster-affected children one year after the disaster. |

Counseling
LSS provides a wide variety of counseling services that address emotional and
relationship problems associated with childhood and youth. These counseling services
bridge the years from the very young all the way through adolescence. The goal for each of
these services is to help young people cope with situations, build positive behaviors and
develop emotionally-healthy outlooks. |

Crisis Nursery
Crisis Nursery is a confidential service offering short-term, safe care
for children from infancy through 12 years of age. This care may be
provided by a licensed day care provider or
may extend to licensed overnight care. The service is provided for
families who are experiencing significant levels of stress which may
lead to the abuse or neglect of their child. |

Debt/Financial Counseling
Certified professionals help people restructure debt and payment plans
as well as offer hands-on suggestions related to budgeting and
establishing sound money-management practices. Offices in 20 locations
statewide. |

Employment Services
LSS Employment Services provides job placement and retention assistance to welfare participants who live in Hennepin County through the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP). Our programs help participants overcome barriers to employment such as language and cultural, lack of work experience, mental health issues, and chemical health issues. |

Foster Grandparents
Volunteer grandparents befriend young children in their day care centers, schools,
correctional facilities and battered womens shelters to offer a caring presence and
a positive adult role model.

GrandFamily Connections
Support for grandparents who have assumed responsibilities for parenting their
grandchildren. |

Guardianship/Conservatorship
For people unable to make their own decisions relative to financial matters or self-care,
LSS can be appointment by the court to assume responsibilities for care of their personal
affairs. |

Housing/Shelters
Adults and families sometimes experience difficulty in finding secure and permanent
housing. LSS offers a number of housing programs that help people find appropriate living
situations. In addition, they are given training in handling monthly budgets and developing
positive tenant/landlord relationships. Children and Youth are sometimes unable to live with their parents. In cases like
this, LSS operates crisis nurseries for small children plus emergency shelters and group
homes for trouble teens. |

Independent Living Services
The mission of our independent living skills programs is to provide a means of
intervening in the lives of youth before they become dependent on social services or
government assistance programs. This is accomplished by helping young people develop
self-esteem, basic survival skills, social and leadership skills, and community and peer
support networks. We also provide guidance for their employment and educational goals.

Nurturing Parents and Children offers parenting groups and classes in
Minneapolis that provide information, support and resources to
help parents build a healthy relationship with
their children. |

Personal/Social Awareness Program (P/SA)
Outpatient treatment programs for youth with sexual behavior problems, including the new DISCOVERY program for 10 to 12 year-olds. |

Portland House
Portland House is a halfway house for adult men who are completing their criminal
sentences and are being prepared to return to community life. This halfway house offers
counseling, employment assistance and general guidance following incarceration. |

LSS Range Youth Services offers a wide variety of programs to serve youth and their families in Northern St. Louis County.

Refugee Services
LSS Refugee Services assists federally-approved refugees form various countries as they reunite with family members already living in Minnesota. We provide initial services to refugees, helping them to become self-sufficient in their new country. |

Safe House
The Safe House, a shelter
for homeless youth ages 16-20, is located in the Merriam Park
neighborhood of St. Paul. It is one of the few services in the Twin
Cities where young people can find assistance with shelter, basic needs,
advocacy and referral to other services to meet longer-term needs. |

Based Programs for Youth
A variety of prevention programs address truancy, pregnancy, refugee transitions,
violence, chemical abuse. |

Together for Youth
Together for Youth is a social/support group in Duluth for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) teenagers, or those questioning their sexual orientation. |

Welfare to Work
Through employment training and counseling, LSS helps long-term welfare recipients
transition to lives characterized by employment and self-reliance. |
