Refugee Services Update

January 29, 2017

Our hearts go out to refugees who are suffering around the world. America has a long and proud history of serving refugees from all backgrounds dating back to World War II and these executive orders diminish our ability to reduce suffering and provide more refugees with safety and well-being.

We hope that the President reverses his decisions on refugees when he sees first-hand the rigorous screening and multiple levels of security clearances that refugees go through to come to the U.S. It’s the safest way for immigrants to enter our country.

We also hope the President comes to see that we will need all of the refugees and immigrants we can get to make America greater than ever. With Baby Boomers retiring and our birth rates down, we’ll need many more workers in the years ahead to help us deliver daily care we all need, build our roads and bridges, start businesses and grow our economy.

We are grateful for the outpouring of support we receive all the time from Minnesotans who want to help. And, we are proud of the Christian congregations who have studied our discussion guide My Neighbor is Muslim over the past year to build understanding and mutual respect in Minnesota and across the country.

With the President's Executive Order putting a hold on refugee arrivals for four months, we will be turning more of our attention to welcoming refugees already in Minnesota and further helping them to integrate into our communities.
