LSS Vasa Children’s Home
LSS Vasa Children’s Home is a 24-bed ICF/MR that supports children and young adults, 7-22 years of age, with a wide range of developmental, physical, psychological, social or behavioral delays. Our staff develop individualized program plans to assure safety, learning, growth and choice for each individual.
LSS Vasa is located six miles west of Red Wing, MN. The home is divided into four “cottages,” which serve six individuals each. 24-hour staffing is provided. The typical staffing ratio is two staff per six individuals, and one awake night staff.
Activities are designed according to the individual’s interests. These interests typically include Special Olympics, other athletics, volunteering, church, arts and crafts, community educational classes, dances, camping, and summer vacations. Individuals develop friendships with their peers and within their community. Individuals living at LSS Vasa attend school in the Red Wing area, where there are a variety of classrooms and curriculums offered.
All families are different, but as appropriate, home visits and family contact is encouraged. With the vast majority of individuals served, the families remain legal guardians, their values are honored and the families direct the team with developing the program plan.
LSS Vasa is licensed by the MN Department of Health and the MN Department of Human Services. Licensing requires a primary diagnosis of developmental disabilities or related conditions.
