LSS Meals on Wheels Receives Grant from Meals on Wheels America

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s Meals on Wheels service in Waseca has been awarded a $700 grant from Meals on Wheels America. Again this year, Meals on Wheels America, dedicated to the wellbeing of older adults, is partnering with Subaru of America’s Share the Love event to raise financial support for services such as Lutheran Social Service’s Meals on Wheels program. Since it began, this campaign has raised funds but also brought greater awareness to older adults’ wishes to stay independent at home and active in their communities.

Grant funds will allow Lutheran Social Service to move forward with plans to purchase a new commercial-grade refrigerator to support the home-delivered meal service based at the Waseca Senior Center.

“Without a new refrigerator, our service cannot safely store all the necessary components of our nutritious meals, and support the many older adults who count on Lutheran Social Service to meet their daily dietary needs,” said Vanessa Steffl, assistant director of Senior Nutrition for Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. “Receiving continued support from this generous program enables so many Minnesota seniors to remain healthy and independent in their homes. We are so appreciative of Meals on Wheels America’s recognition of our work.”
