Children
Information and support can help parents develop healthy, loving relationships with their children
The Nurturing Parents & Children Program at Lutheran Social Service offers Parenting Classes utilizing the curriculum “Nurturing Parenting”. This research based curriculum was developed by Stephen J. Bavolek, Ph. D. who is nationally recognized for his work in preventing the maltreatment of children through promoting the philosophy and practices of Nurturing Parenting. Nurturing Parenting is a proven approach for helping families by promoting empathy, discipline with dignity, self-worth and empowerment.
Each series will include the following ten sessions:
- The Philosophy & Practices of Nurturing Parenting
- Ages & Stages for Infants and Toddlers
- Ways to Enhance Positive Brain Development in Children & Teens
- Communicating with Respect
- Building Self Worth in Children
- Understanding Feelings
- Understanding and Developing Morals, Values & Rules
- Praising Children and their Behavior
- Alternatives to Spanking
- Learning Positive Ways to Deal with Stress & Anger
The topics that are presented each week are adaptable for learning and discussion related to children of all ages.
Please feel free to refer parents that could benefit from attending this new curriculum. Classes and childcare remain free of charge. Parents must call to register for the classes to determine space in the classes and in childcare. Parents receive a certificate of completion after certain requirements are completed.
Adult Parent Classes are held on Thursdays from 6:00-7:30 p.m. For moms, dads and caregivers 18 years and older.
