The LSS Metro Homeless Youth Services offer a continuum of holistic services to runaway, homeless, and street-dependent youth in the Twin Cities Metro Area. These services are committed to helping youth build on assets and strengths, and connecting them with caring, supportive adults.
According to Wilder Research, young people unaccompanied by parents face multiple challenges:
- More than half of youth said they have experienced physical or sexual abuse;
- 49% of youth said they suffer from mental health problems;
- 34% of youth said that neglect by parents played a role in their homelessness.
LSS Street Program:
Employs youth outreach workers who venture out to the streets, malls, and community centers across the Twin Cities metro area to make contact with youth who are at risk and/or are without permanent shelter. Through the meaningful relationships outreach workers develop with youth, our staff is able to offer these young people alternatives to street life and make life-changing referrals. The LSS Street Program is a member of the StreetWorks Collaborative, a network of 13 community-based agencies that is designed to pool resources and more effectively conduct outreach across the Metro Area.
LSS Safe House:
Located in St. Paul, the LSS Safe House provides overnight emergency shelter to single youth ages 16-20. Advocates work one on one with youth to help them process their experiences, plan for the future, and access appropriate community resources.
LSS LifeHaven:
Provides short-term housing to minor mothers and their children who are experiencing homelessness. The program, located in St. Paul, serves six moms and their children. While at LifeHaven, young moms receive case management, life skills training and parenting skills training.
LSS Rezek House:
Offers transitional housing in St. Paul for youth, 16-21 years of age, who are currently homeless and from Ramsey County. Youth lease an apartment at 30% of their income and have case management and life skills training services on site. Youth in good standing may stay in the program for up to 24 months.
LSS Transitional Living Project:
LSS Works with youth, ages 16-21, who are homeless and/or precariously housed and are from Ramsey County. The program helps youth access market rate housing in the community, and provides case management and life skills training, in order to assist youth in becoming stable and contributing members of their communities.
