Celebrating Neighbor to Neighbor

‘Celebrating Neighbor’ is about the care we extend to those who live above us, below us, next to us and far from us. It`s a call to action of the most important kind: to be thoughtful neighbors. See what you might want to try in your community!

Granite City

Corporation: Granite City Food and Brewery

“Thank you so much for the beautiful box of gifts. This was much appreciated to cheer me up!” So said the thank you note from a grandparent in an LSS Kinship Caregiver Support group to neighbors she never knew she had at Granite City Food and Beverage Company. Granite City employees wanted to make sure no one was forgotten over the holidays, so together they coordinated a drive to provide gifts to both the children and their caregivers.

“Thank you so much for thinking of a grandma," she wrote. "How did you know my favorite candies!”

Great neighboring comes in many forms!

St Andrews Lutheran

Congregation: St. Andrew Lutheran Church

The vast number of people, the huge number of gifts, and the hundreds of hours dedicated to this year’s Holiday Store at the Center for Changing Lives in Minneapolis demonstrates how the annual event is truly a church-wide undertaking for St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie. Members of the congregation, under the leadership of Kaitlin Bach and Pastor Peter Johnson, donated over 1,700 gifts valued at over $30,000 for families to choose from. In addition, over 700 volunteers shopped, sorted, and acted as personal shoppers for families at the store. The Center for Changing Lives and Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota are incredibly grateful for such caring neighbors!
