Being a Good Neighbor

Celebrating neighbor is about the care we extend to those who live above us, below us, next to us and far from us. It's a call to action of the most important kind: to be thoughtful neighbors.

UnitedHealth Group Logo According to their website, at UnitedHealth Group, social responsibility leverages the extraordinary abilities of our people, ideas and resources to help the communities where we live and work.

They certainly did that on a recent visit to the metro Center for Changing Lives! After an overview of LSS and the work we do, fifteen top business leaders from UHG learned more specifically about LSS Financial Counseling and what makes our work so successful.

Next the group was challenged to help create a model and plan for expanding our client base and helping more people conquer their debt. The ideas were flying fast and furious and brightly colored post-it notes dotted the walls.

On top of that they even peeled potatoes and made cookies for the Thursday Community Meal!

They cut. They tied. They colored. They packed. They made a difference.

Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester joined with hundreds of ELCA congregations in the U.S. working on "God's work. Our hands." projects.

Sunday, Sept. 13, and Wednesday, Sept. 16, Zumbro hands tied 200 fleece blankets and packed 200 compassion kits filled with basic needs for youth experiencing or at risk of becoming homeless who participate in Living Independently with Knowledge (LINK) and Ways to Give, programs.

CEO Jodi Harpstead was invited to preach at Zumbro that Sunday, and helped church members celebrate not only God’s Work Our Hands Day, but the 100th anniversary of the founding of Zumbro in Rochester.

Thank you Zumbro, for being such Great Neighbors!
