Bringing hope to young people experiencing homelessness

Brad 659x386

“I had nothing with me, just the clothes on my back,” said 19-year-old Brad, after being kicked out of the home he shared with his girlfriend.

Brad moved to Duluth with his girlfriend to avoid violence and instability in his own family. He hoped such a move would help him leave his chaotic life behind. Unfortunately, their relationship took an unexpected turn and Brad was told he needed to leave.

The life he had built, away from his abusive past was dissolving. He was attending high school, working at McDonalds and suddenly, he was homeless.

Like Brad, an estimated 6,000 Minnesota youth experience homelessness on any given night. You can help these young people by generously supporting Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s programs for youth experiencing homelessness.

Thankfully, Brad’s school counselor was able to help him connect to a street outreach and homeless youth worker at Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS). That outreach worker helped Brad find shelter at Another Door, an LSS emergency shelter for youth. “They greeted me, provided me with food and gave me a space to sleep,” said Brad. “Another Door brought me hope.”

This holiday season you can bring hope to youth like Brad by generously supporting LSS.

Today Brad is finishing high school, working on his financial skills, and planning to go to culinary school to become a chef.

Thank you for giving generously to help youth like Brad find the stability and support they need to succeed!
